Colourful Lakeside Custom Home

Set on the shores of Lake Ontario, this colourful new-construction home was designed to support the clients’ everyday routines while welcoming children, grandchildren and friends for extended visits and large family gatherings. Four Blocks South developed the interior layouts, selected all finishes and designed the furnishings throughout the home.

Long-term comfort and accessibility were considered from the earliest planning stages. An elevator connects the home’s different levels, while bathrooms incorporate grab bars and structural reinforcement for additional supports that may be added in the future. These practical features were integrated discreetly so that the home feels welcoming and residential rather than clinical. Flexible gathering spaces feel comfortable when occupied by two people but can easily accommodate a much larger group.

The interior palette draws inspiration from the changing blues and greens of Lake Ontario, together with the clients’ affection for the bold colours and distinctive character of Newfoundland. Rich blue kitchen cabinetry, natural wood, expressive artwork and playful accents give the rooms an East Coast spirit while maintaining a polished, contemporary sensibility.

In the front foyer, Four Blocks South created a fully custom illuminated art installation that provides privacy from the street-facing windows. Inspired by the clients’ love of stained glass, the piece filters light during the day and becomes a glowing focal point in the evening.

The completed home is colourful, personal and thoughtfully planned—a lakeside residence designed for longevity, relaxed daily living and meaningful time with family.
